Touring Serbia in 2012
I enjoy very much being a host to foreign butterfly lovers, since in Serbia there are a lot of places with abundance of butterflies. Tours are always organized for small groups (2-5 people), so everyone can get what he/she wants. It is great satisfaction for me to see people enjoy such holidays, and those coming back again prove these trips were successful.
In 2011 we had Serbian butterfly field guide published. It is printed in Serbian, but now English version is prepared on CD as a supplement. There is good chance Dutch version will also be prepared in time. I hope that will help visitors.
Each trip visits some excellent butterfly locations and some unexplored ones. So each guest has a lot of opportunities to make nice photos and explore unknown territory. At the bottom of the page are two short films made by Annette van Berkel that can give you rough idea of what you can expect.
Below you can find a rough schedule for 2012. If you decide to visit Serbia but dates offered do not suit you or you want to come with a car please e-mail me, for rearrangements are possible. Prices include travelling in Serbia, accommodation, meals and experienced butterfly guide.
May 18-27: accommodation near Ljubovija. Interesting, little explored area so it's hard to predict what is to be found. But butterflies will be there in good numbers, so prepare your camera. 460 Euros.
June 22 - July 1: pleasant accomodation in Stara Planina. This is superb area with more than 150 butterfly species! Lots of interesting butterflies everywhere, so it's hard to choose. Expected species: Nymphalis vaualbum, N. xanthomelas, Erebia alberganus, E. orientalis, Coenonympha rhodopensis... well over 100 species. 570 Euros.
July 20-29: accommodation near Bela Palanka. Easy access to several beautiful gorges with interesting butterflies, also to one refugium of rare species. Expected species: Parnassius apollo, Polyommatus ripartii, P. admetus, Lycaena candens... more than 100. 540 Euros.
August 15-24: accommodation in Kamena Gora. Unbelievable hospitality in fantastic mountain area, unspoilt nature. Great opportunity for some late butterflies. Expected species: Hippparchia statilinus, Erebia melas... and many more. 520 Euros.
In case some visitors are interested in birds or moths, experienced specialist can join the tour.
